Story

Located in the heart of Gulshan, Baton Rouge is a buffet restaurant that serves 101 mouthwatering dishes. From Arabian and Indian to Chinese and Italian, they’ve got a huge selection of dishes. The Kebab corner serves Kebabs, while dosas are served nearby. Grill your own chicken sate on the grill and cut your own pieces of lamb from a whole roasted one.

The restaurant, which sits on the 7 thfloor of Pink City Shopping Mall, offers a delightful view of this city.

If you’re searching for a buffet place that serves delectable dishes for an affordable price then Baton Rouge is the place for you.

The first time I went there was about 12 years ago, when Baton Rouge opened its door. The reason it attracted me was its name. The name reminds me of the city in Louisiana that I used to visit almost every weekend during the 80s. It was a 50-mile drive from Lafayette — my home away from home.

Baton Rouge, the restaurant, still serves delicious foods. Many restaurants do very well the first couple of months, but then they start to lose their touch. But not Baton Rouge.

The place is pretty big and neat. It’s family-friendly. There’s a separate area in the back, which is reserved for small parties. The party hall can accommodate 300+ people.

I started my dinner with soup, a bowl of salad, and chicken sate. For the main course, I had some noodles, 2 pieces of nan, and a piece of chicken tandoori. Everything was delicious; the chicken tandoori was made right in front of me and served hot. As I was eating, the tempting aroma of roasted lamb filled the air. I couldn’t resist myself so I went back and filled my plate with a big hunk of lamb; it was flavorful and delicious!

Looking out the window, I was enjoying the view. The avenues were filled with cars, taxis, and rickshaws. And there were people — some crossing the street, some talking on their phone and some were mingling on the sidewalk. There were old beggars and there were hawkers selling maps and books to balloons and laundry baskets.

After dinner, it was time for dessert. The dessert section is filled with an assorted variety of desserts. They have jilepi, pudding, firni, chocolate brownie, fruit salad, baklava, pastries — enough to satisfy your sweet tooth.

The service was good and the bill was reasonable.

After taking care of the bill, I proceeded to leave. The waiters were nice and asked me if everything was OK. I thanked them and took the lift down to the ground floor. I gave the guard a decent tip because he looked after my car. I started my engine and began to drive.

It was past midnight and the streets were almost deserted. As I was driving down Gulshan avenue, it started to rain. A thunderstorm began and broke the silence of the night. The raindrops were falling on my car and the windshield wipers were chattering. I was enjoying the sound of the rain as it impinged upon my car.

I turned on my CD player and instantly, the silvery, melodious voice of Garth Brooks filled the interior of my car:

“I spent last night in the arms

Of a girl in Louisiana

And though I’m out on the highway

My thoughts are still with her

Such a strange combination of a woman and a child

Such a strange situation stoppin’ every hundred miles
